Staying Well to Help Others: My Journey in Mental Health Advocacy

August 18, 2025

Living Through the Struggle

I know firsthand how difficult mental health challenges can be, because I’ve lived them. Years ago, I faced my own battle for stability. It wasn’t a quick or easy process, but with the right support, healthy habits, and connection to my community, I found a path to long-term wellness.

That stability didn’t happen by chance. It’s the result of deliberate, daily choices to care for my body, mind, and spirit; to stay connected with others; and to engage in work and activities that give me purpose. These choices don’t just benefit me, they equip me to be fully present for others who may be struggling.

Why Self-Care Comes First

Living with mental health challenges has taught me an important truth: I can’t help others effectively if I neglect my own wellbeing. Whether it’s a morning workout, a consistent sleep routine, or meaningful time with friends, these practices give me the clarity and resilience I need to serve.

In my role as President of the Board at Mindspring Mental Health Alliance, I work to ensure mental health resources are accessible, practical, and relevant. I believe some of the most impactful support comes from connecting people with the “best and brightest” opportunities—whether that’s a local class, a community gathering, or a tool that makes a direct difference in someone’s life.

Your Role in Building Hope

I strive to be more than a leader behind the scenes. For years, I've been a resource, a listener, and a fellow traveler for anyone affected by mental illness—including the loved ones who walk that journey alongside them. I want people to know they can reach out—not only to Mindspring, but to me, as a human being who understands.

Your support makes this possible. Every dollar given to Mindspring directly impacts lives here in our community—funding programs, resources, and advocacy that foster hope and healing. If you believe in the power of connection and the importance of mental health for all, please consider making a gift today at mindspringhealth.org/donate.

Taking care of ourselves isn’t selfish—it’s essential. When we’re healthy, we’re better equipped to stand beside those who need us most.

Join Us on the Course for a Cause

One great way to support our mission is by supporting our upcoming Mindspring Mental Health Alliance Golf Outing on September 12, 2025. This signature event raises crucial funds for our programs while bringing our community together for friendly competition, connection, and purpose.

We're thrilled to share that all golf teams are filled, but there's still an important way to get involved. We are seeking volunteers and donations to help us drive mental health awareness forward—one swing at a time. Details are available at mindspringhealth.org/golf.
